Denmark/Sweden/Poland/Czech Rep. (June/July 2026)
Since it has been quite a few months since my last trip to South America, and my next larger trip is planned only for December, I decided to do something "small". I thought it would be best to stay in Europe and go by car, particularly since air traffic is somewhat disrupted by the war in Iran. A country I stopped short of on a previous trip came to mind- Poland.
I decided to load my car on a train and ride up to Hamburg, from where I would enter Poland in the north. This turned out to be quite complicated, as I learned when I tried to book the trip. It seems that during July and August, Hamburg-Altona train station is closed (and this would be high-season!).
I quickly shifted to plan B, which ended up flying into Copenhagen, from where I would make a small detour to Sweden (because it's there) and then fly down to Gdansk. A few days working my way down to Warsaw, where I pick up daughter Manuela. We then go to Bialowicza National Park which promises a lot of forest and maybe a few bisons.
Thereafter, we work our way down to Krakow from Manuela flies back to Basel. I will stay in Poland for a few days more.
