Denmark

So here is where things begin. I had two full days in Denmark (mainly Copenhagen) , and a list of things to do that were suggested to me from various sides.

I ended up arriving with a toe that was killing me, so I spent the first part just with the HopOn-HopOff Bus around Copenhagen (I basically hopped on and drove the whole circuit, and then took the boat cruise.

Nyhavn was THE red light district

with brothels, rowdy bars and good times. The colors were actually a help for the illiterate sailors so they could better identify what business was on offer.

Sailor's quarters

There were traditionally porcelain dogs in the windows. If they were facing outward, the man of the house was off to sea (so the coast was clear for "visitors").

It took me a while to find the African place which AI had recommended to me,

but the peanut stew (with homemade chili) from The Gambia was well worth it

and of course, the Little Mermaid

I wonder what she would think about all the tourists in an absolute photo feeding frenzy.

Gefion

The four oxen are mythical beasts driven by the Norse goddess Gefion. According to legend: Gefion plowed the island of Zealand (Sjælland) out of Sweden. She transformed her four sons into giant oxen, hitched them to a plow, and carved out a massive chunk of land — which became Denmark’s largest island. The hole left behind in Sweden became Lake Vänern.
